October 24th

Once we’ve prayed
and closed our eyes.
When we’ve sunk
beneath ourselves
into that last
final breath
can we finally
let all our sins die.
She’ll never see me
that way again,
after all
that I thought didn’t matter.
It’s now just me
that sits here
in this endless
row of chairs
just waiting
to be silent
and have back
what I let slip away.
