A new time

There are days like these
where we tumble
and fray
into the dirt and grass.
There are no smiles here,
just the lumps
in our hearts
and the hate
that spills from the best of us.
If only things could change,
shift to the side
like an empty thought
among the looks
that’ve got us by for all these years.
