Hindsight

It’d be better
if I remembered,
laughed first
before anyone else caught on
and then there’d be
a little bit less
for them to spy about,
or maybe I’ll
just confess.
Tell them that I bite
and even
sometimes lose myself
under all those
wonderful circumstances.
I know it’s a tease
the way she looks at me,
almost looking somewhere else
before the eye contact sticks
and we both
hide in the lives we think about.
